My shadow says hello.
You remember those days, when the real world wasn't
real?
And then the real world solidified a bit and the idea
that it wasn't real went away for a while but it grew more and more romanticized
until one day, it emerged full fledged: A Mary Sue of the
first order. You know, Mary Sue's make the best primary
characters, if you put in a little bit of effort.
Example: She was a pirate and a princess. She was on a quest
and out to save the kingdom and the world. She fought in
air, land and sea. She became a space knight and defender of
the galaxy. She fought the evil villains, the dictators and
tyrants, the malicious bullies of imaginary worlds. She had
friends and allies. She fell in love with the wrong man but
ended up with the right one. She fought beside the heroes of
movies and books and performed miraculous deeds.
Good writing material if you just cut out all the silly overblown bits and add internal characterization.
